Empire Of The Clouds: When Britain’s Aircraft Ruled The World by James Hamilton-Patterson.
The Author is ten years older than me so therefore remembers the jet age at it’s inseption and the great British aircraft manufactured from the start of that era and as a schoolboy saw all theses great classics as they first began to appear at air shows.
Of course these aircraft was still flying when I started to attend air shows and I am old enough to be around when aircraft were still allowed to produce sonic booms as the day at Waterbeach my first air show in around 1958 when I saw what would've been a Hunter breaking the sound barrier in a dive. This book certainly brings back memories for those of us old enough to remember those times and an inditement on the politicians and industrial leaders that between them manage to bring the death knell of the British aircraft industry.
